China Silk Road Group (CSRG) continues to contribute to the economic and trade cooperation between China and Malaysia during National Day holiday. Year 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia, and 2024 will witness the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. In line with the concept of “China-Malaysia Community of Shared Future”, aiming to the goal of benefiting people’s lives in both countries, CSRG has initiated planning and preparations for a series of celebratory activities, including cooperation in the fields of digital economy, digital culture and tourism, and healthcare.

On October 4th, 2023, at the invitation of the Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC), Dr. Yan Lijin, Chairman of CSRG and Chairman of the Malaysia-China Digital Cooperation Council (MCDC), visited the MCBC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

During the visit, MCBC’s CEO, Mr. Lee Taikang, and Dr. Yan Lijin engaged in enthusiastic discussions about the proposed series of activities based on the principles of China-Malaysia Community of Shared Future and Malaysia’s “Malaysia Madani” vision. The two parties reached a high degree of consensus and formed a series of cooperation intentions in the areas of digital cultural tourism, collaboration on the Silk Road Digital Cultural Heritage Platform, modern healthcare and wellness, the establishment of a digital economy demonstration zone, youth leadership development and exchanges, and the Malaysia-China Digital Green Development Fund.

Mr. Lee Taikang, CEO of MCBC, expressed support for and active participation in the development of the CSRG’s digital cultural tourism platform. MCBC will provide tourism promotional materials and intellectual property support, jointly organize cultural and tourism promotion activities, develop tourist attractions, facilitate negotiations for trade fairs and activities, and promote influencer marketing. MCBC also supports CSRG in combining digital technologies with traditional Chinese medicine for “Medical Wellness and Healthcare Tourism,” which is intended to provide support and convenience for the upcoming “China-Malaysia 50+ New Tourism and Wellness Summit & World Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Development Conference.” Additionally, MCBC suggested the promotion of traditional Chinese healthcare activities such as Tai Chi and Chinese therapeutic exercises in Malaysian communities.

The two parties also discussed cultural heritage protection, especially their joint efforts to promote the establishment of the “Silk Road Cultural Heritage Digital Collection Public Platform” and digital cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia, as well as cultural expos. They hope to strengthen cooperation in these areas to extend the protection of digital cultural heritage along the Maritime Silk Road to other countries along its route.

MCBC was jointly established in 2002 by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Malaysian government, under the joint witness of then-Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad and visiting Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao. MCBC aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and China, enhance people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, and benefit the business and investment communities of both countries.

Establishment of MCDC MOU was signed during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar’s visit to Beijing in April 2023, and officially launched in May 2023. MCDC is dedicated to providing digital development opportunities for small, and medium-sized enterprises and technology startups in Malaysia. It offers a platform for information integration services, focusing on the core needs of enterprises and institutions in the digital economy field in both China and Malaysia, while serving as a bridge and link to jointly promote the construction of the “Digital Maritime Silk Road” economic belt.

CSRG adheres to the guiding principles of “Extensive Consultation, Joint Contribution, and Shared Benefits” and the core values of “common development, shared future.” With international cooperation and digital infrastructure as its cornerstone, it focuses on the new platform of the Digital Silk Road, leading the way in the new ecosystem of the digital economy and supporting global green and sustainable development.

In 2023, the leaders of China and Malaysia reached a consensus on the “China-Malaysia Community of Shared Future,” opening a new chapter in the bilateral relationship.
